History

Everything starts with an idea, and Women of Law Enforcement is no exception. In 2013, Chief Jimmy Perdue, of the North Richland Hills (TX) Police Department, came up with the idea of empowering women in the field of policing through an annual conference. He wanted to provide them with a strong network of leaders that could build up others, mentor, and train females in the many aspects of law enforcement. He took this idea to then Lieutenant, Carrie White, to bring this vision to life. As a natural-born mentor, Carrie knew exactly what to do and surrounded herself with a robust board of leaders to help her breathe life into the newly formed organization. Chief Perdue wanted to ensure Carrie was prepared for the arduous task of developing a large scale conference. Carrie attended the IACP Women's Leadership Institute for the rigorous course that works to develop female leaders of law enforcement.

In 2014, after many meetings and very intentional planning, the first Women of Law Enforcement Conference was held. Year one welcomed 110 women of policing from across the nation to the Southlake Training Center. Fast forward to where the organization is now, and it continues to outgrow venues with more massive crowds, as the demand for quality training specifically designed for women grows.

The Executive leadership of the Women of Law Enforcement brings many years of experience and varying ranks to the team. The organization continues to be led by Forney (TX) Police Chief, Carrie White. It is now expanding into specialized groups to assist the executive team with developing and planning for an even bigger and better conference than the year before.
